http://www.colormarketing.org/ Yellow is happy color, blue is the new green BY CHERYL P. ALLEN • THE GREENVILLE (S.C.) NEWS • January 31, 2009 * Post a Comment * Recommend * Print this page * E-mail this article * Share this article: o Del.icio.us o Facebook o Digg o Reddit o Newsvine o Buzz up! * What’s this? Have you ever wondered why unrelated brands -- from KitchenAid to Martha Stewart -- are so in sync when it comes to color? Out of nowhere, it seems, turquoise mixers, cookware, even washers and dryers, appear in store displays. Advertisement Or, suddenly, every shoe that catches your eye is purple. Or every sofa is moss green. Members of the Color Marketing Group, an international nonprofit association of color design professionals, keep tabs on emerging color trends and forecast color directions 19 months in advance. Cues on developing trends may come from a Web site devoted to Aboriginal art, street fashion in Japan or worldwide economic conditions. In 2009, "we're finding comfort in colors that are familiar, and yet at the same time, we're embracing colors that make us happy, especially as accents," Jaime Stephens, CMG's executive director, said in a news release. White and other neutrals are more complex, taking on a bit more texture and shine. Yellow will be a standout accent color for 2009, while blue is becoming the new green. Watery and sky blues, for instance, represent our commitment to a greener planet. Consumers also will find that bright, exotic accent hues of oranges, turquoises and reds are prevalent, according to CMG's 2009 forecast. And purple, which has been a hot color in fashion recently, will maintain a strong influence in interior design as well. -

The NEW Echo Design- (9)
Have we all been designed and processed too much? Out jumps the Anti-Design. VM-SD Retail Pulse just did a story on the new Hotel Design. I think it compares directly to the New Echo Design. The Art Hotel-- The Chambers Hotel goes for a gallery feel in Minneapolis Take two existing buildings, one an outdated hotel and the other a printing facility, and — using a collection of contemporary art — create a hotel that's as much an art gallery as a hotel, both functionally and aesthetically. You'll have the Chambers Hotel in Minneapolis, completed just last year. See the hotel's minimalist aesthetic with touches of rock star glamour. Now compare it to the latest Modular offerings from Lindsay Exhibit Group. Minimal Exhibits with the art house look. Introduced at the Exhibitor show exclusively, we now have the first glimpse of them here. A website is in the works. The style system is so new and fresh the prices are not set yet. As soon as we know- you will know! -

ShadowGraphing (2)
Transformit introduces ShadowGraphing Transformit has introduced ShadowGraphing, a new technique of tension fabric architecture where the aluminum framing is integrated into the structure as a design element. The result is a dynamic effect featuring dramatic lines and shadows. Transformit president, Cindy Thompson says the technique was developed in response to its clients’ need to customize basic elements, such as walls and canopies, to fit into certain environments and contexts. “The design trend in recent years has been to minimize and hide the structural components as much as possible. However, we are finding that in many instances, a more appropriate and unique expression can be created by using the framework to create patterns, shapes or even messaging with the frames,” says Thompson. The first installed application of ShadowGraphing was created for the Strong National Museum of Play in Rochester, NY. Exhibits designer Matt Handy challenged Transformit to create a custom canopy for the museum’s “Field of Play” exhibit. ““We wanted puzzle pieces integrated into the canopy design because it’s a reference inspired by the museums comprehensive toy collection on display in our galleries,” says Handy. Company Statement Transformit is the world R&D leader in tension-fabric structure design serving the exhibit, event, retail, interiors and hospitality industries. The company offers multiple readymade product lines for purchase or rental, and accepts commissions to design exclusive applications. Top designers rely on Transformit custom collaborations to engineer their most creative visions into reality. Specialties include the engineering of complex sculptural shapes; the application of custom patterns and large format graphics; and the creation of unique effects through layering, lighting and use of reflective and/or translucent fabrics.
